Quickly Reviewed #5: Mortlach 2002/2015 - Signatory Vintage

About the whisky: This Mortlach was bottled by Signatory Vintage at 43%. It matured in two bourbon hogsheads (#12494 and 12495) for 13 years.

Nose: Instantly I can smell the Mortlach character. Just a strong spirit, spicy, oaky and some vanilla. Great.

Taste: Quite some sweetness from the casks. Oakiness as well and some Vanilla. Just a clash of cask versus distillery. But not in a bad sense, I like it. Also this strange "beefy" Mortlach note.

Finish: You can taste the age in the finish. It's just medium long and a bit lackluster. Oily, oaky and still heavy.

Overall/Final Thoughts: I have to admit that I have a sweetspot for Mortlach. I simply like the distillery. Not their insanely priced standard range but the readily available independent bottlings. This one for sure isn't a top Single Malt. But it is fairly priced and a good entry to the world of Mortlach.
