Quickly Reviewed #3: Aberlour 15 y.o. - Double Cask Matured

Über den Whisky: Der Aberlour 15 Jahre Double Cask Matured wurde in ex-Bourbon- und Sherryfässern gereift. Er kommt mit 40% Alkohol und in der praktischen 1 Liter Flasche.

Nase: Süßlich, angenehm, etwas Honig und definitiv ein Einfluss von Sherry. Feige und auf jeden Fall Rosine. Insgesamt doch angenehm, dabei aber auch nicht übermäßig komplex.

Geschmack: Was ist hier passiert? Die Nase fand ich gar nicht schlecht und ich habe mich auf einen sherrygelagerten Whisky gefreut. Aber hier stimmt etwas nicht. Der Anfang ist noch mild und zeigt den Sherry, aber dann kommt eine wirklich bittere Note dazu. Irgendwas scheint hier nicht zu stimmen, vielleicht waren nicht die besten Sherryfässer am Werk? Für 15 Jahre Reifung ist er außerdem relativ scharf (und das bei minimaler Alkoholstärke von 40%!). Vielleicht sollte ich ihm bei Gelegenheit noch einmal eine Chance geben, aber sicher bin ich mir da nicht...

Finish: Kurz, bitter, nicht gerade beeindruckend!

Abschließende Gedanken: Dieser Whisky war ein Geburtstagsgeschenk an einen Freund. Eigentlich sollte es ein angenehmer, nicht zu komplexer Sherry Whisky sein. Jetzt fühle ich mich etwas schuldig, die Qualität gefällt mir leider nicht. Vorher kannte ich nur den A'Bunadh und den auch hier schon besprochenen (hier geht's zum Review) 12 Jahre alten unchillfiltered. Beide haben mir gut gefallen, dieser kann leider nicht mithalten.

Abschließende Bewertung: 3/7 (Vielleicht ein vernünftiger Einstiegswhisky. Aber verschenken werde ich den Aberlour 15 Jahre nicht erneut.)

About the whisky: Aberlour 15 years old Double Cask Matured is matured in bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at 40% ABV this expression comes in a handy 1 litre bottle. 

Nose: Sweet, honey and some sherry influence. Figs and raisins. Overall pleasant but not too complex.

Taste: Ok, what did just happen? I liked the nose and was looking forward to an easy to enjoy sherry-influenced whisky. But this one falls flat once you have tasted it. Mild and sherry-ish in the beginning but then a bitter off-note comes into play. Maybe not the best sherry casks have been used for maturing this one. A little sharp for 15 years and only minimum strength as well. Maybe I should give this one another try, but I don't know if this whisky deserves a second chance.

Finish: Short, bitter, not impressed.

Overall/Final Thoughts: This whisky was a birthday present for a friend of mine. I feel a little guilty that I chose this one. I only tried A'Bunadh and the 12 y.o. unchillfiltered (review) before and liked them. Despite the 15 years of maturation it lacks a lot of character.
